Capital One City Parks Foundation SummerStage Announces 2023 Season With Tanya Tucker, Jason Moran, Kool & The Gang And More
Capital One City Parks Foundation’s SummerStage returns this summer with free concerts across New York City’s various parks, and the Capital One SummerStage in Central Park has unveiled its summer lineup.
Opening night for the park kicks off on June 10 with free performances from St. Paul and the Broken Bones with Say She She and Mwenso & the Shakes for the 2023 Subaru Music Series. Other highlights for the 2023 season include Juanes, Tanya Tucker, Jason Moran, Marisa Monte, DJ Rekha, Horsegirl, Julia Jacklin, Kool & The Gang, Skip Marley, The Comet is Coming, Dorrance Dance and more.
This summer, City Parks Foundation will also be celebrating 50 years of hip-hop with several shows across the parks honoring the genre. Grandmaster Flash will return to the Bronx — the borough that started it all — on Aug. 2. Special edition hip-hop 50th anniversary showcases will also pop up throughout all five boroughs, including Stapleton Waterfront Park in Staten Island, Coney Island and more.
“We are thrilled to present another vibrant season filled with captivating artists from around the world and introduce music fans to their diverse sounds,” Erika Elliot, executive artistic director for SummerStage, said in a statement. “As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip-hop this year, we are excited to highlight the global impact that the genre has had on music and culture with an outstanding lineup of international artists and hometown heroes. SummerStage has been featuring hip-hop in our performances since the ’90s and is dedicated to giving a platform to showcase this important culture, shining a light on the genre every season.”
Along with free concerts throughout the city’s parks, a number of ticketed benefit shows will take place in Central Park to support City Parks Foundation’s free shows.
“Capital One is committed to improving lives, championing diversity, and supporting our local communities,” Andy Ramamoorthy, commercial banking chief product officer and New York City market president at Capital One, said in a statement. “Our sponsorship of SummerStage is a natural extension of that commitment. SummerStage has been a beloved summertime tradition for over three decades and we’re thrilled to support the power of the arts to bring people together, inspire creativity and foster connections. We look forward to sharing in the excitement of SummerStage with New Yorkers and visitors from around the world.”
