Shirley Halperin Named Editor-In-Chief of Los Angeles Magazine

Engine Vision Media Shirley Halperin

Shirley Halperin, veteran music journalist and Executive Editor of Music for Variety since 2017, has been named Editor-in-Chief of Los Angeles Magazine by Engine Vision Media.

An award-winning editor and writer covering the music industry and pop culture, Halperin has held senior positions at Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, Billboard and Entertainment Weekly, among other publications. Her tenure at Variety drastically raised the magazine’s music industry profile competing with—and often scooping—better-staffed and better-funded publications. She has also moderated panels at Pollstar‘s annual Pollstar Live! Conference.

“We are thrilled to welcome Shirley to the team,” Engine Vision Media President and Publisher Chris Gialanella said in statement. “Her experience in music, lifestyle, entertainment and overall knowledge of Los Angeles is impeccable. She will help lead our team to great heights.”

“I am honored to join the Los Angeles team and continue the magazine’s legacy of top-notch features, striking covers, and of-the-moment dispatches about the food, fashion, entertainment and culture of L.A,” Halperin stated. “It is a privilege to continue the rich editorial leadership of Los Angeles, a legacy title which has always found the perfect words to describe the beauty and whimsy of this blended metropolis we call home,.”

Engine Vision Media is led by attorneys Mark Geragos and Ben Meiselas who last December acquired Los Angeles Magazine from Detroit-based Hour Media. Since the acquisition, the company has added 15 new positions in editorial, digital and sales. EVM also owns two regional glossies in Pasadena and Orange Coast.

“We are thrilled to have Shirley on board as our new Editor-in-Chief,” Geragos and Meiselas said in a joint statement. “Her extensive career in Hollywood and her track record of producing high-quality journalism make her the perfect fit for Los Angeles Magazine. We are confident that she will help us continue to deliver exceptional content and take the publication to new heights.”

A longtime Angeleno, Halperin will lead Los Angeles Magazine‘s print and online platforms which will spotlight L.A.’s news, culture and current events and include a wide expanse of editorial including politics, sports, entertainment, music, society, lifestyle, dining, home, real estate and fashion.
