Two people were killed and three others injured following a shooting that happened in a camping area outside The Gorge amphitheater during Beyond Wonderland Festival.
The shooting took place in an overflow campground Saturday night, June 17, when most attendees were enjoying the concert within the venue.

The suspected shooter was shot and detained in a confrontation with police while the event continued. Following the incident, organizers announced the Sunday schedule would be canceled. Ticket holders were informed that refund information is forthcoming.

Insomniac CEO Pasquale Rotella shared a statement from his own Instagram account expressing condolences for victims and explaining the situation.

“We made the decision to keep the festival open at the request of law enforcement once it became evident there was no ongoing threat to the safety of attendees,” the statement read. “This was also done to ensure that the majority of attendees stayed away from the campground area where the incident took place. Our staff worked in close coordination with local authorities to secure the area, while also preserving it for investigators to conduct their work in a smaller, isolated area.”

Rotella expressed gratitude for the Insomniac first responders and said the incident deeply affected him, and stands against everything he hopes to bring through live events.

The 18-and over event at the picturesque Washington amphitheater featured a lineup including Dillon Francis, Flosstradamus, NGHTMRE, Afrojack, Said The Sky, Subtronics, Walker & Royce, Whipped Cream and many others.

The event has taken place since 2010, at sites including NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, California, WAMU Theatre in Seattle, and Bay Area locations including the Oakland Coliseum parking lot and Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View.

The festival’s security policy says fans agree to “a thorough, TSA-style search” with full pat-down and possible show removal. Clear bags were not required, however.
