It marks the first return to the UK for the MTV EMAs since seven years – if one excludes the 2020 edition, which technically took place in London, but didn’t have a live audience due to the lockdowns in place at the time. Also, performances were recorded and broadcast from various locations in Europe and beyond.

The last time the MTV EMAs were hosted live in the UK was in 2017, when the show set up shop at London’s Wembley Arena, Nov. 12.

Last year’s MTV EMAs, originally scheduled for Nov. 5 in Paris, got cancelled due to the Israel-Hamas war. It marked the first time in history the MTV EMAs got cancelled.
