Stadtpark Open Air Germany Celebrates 50th Anniversary With Massive Lineup

2025 marks the 50th anniversary of Stadtpark Open Air. For half a century, the open-air stage in Hamburg, Germany’s Stadtpark has been offering unforgettable open-air concert experiences under the open sky. From rock legends to current chart-toppers, the Stadtpark Open Air season is an integral part of Hamburg’s cultural landscape, whose appeal extends from all over northern Germany to neighboring countries.
Since 1975, Karsten Jahnke Konzertdirektion operates the 4,000-capacity open-air stage in the heart of Hamburg, and it will be difficult to name a rock or pop icon who has not yet performed here: Ray Charles, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, John Lee Hooker, Johnny Cash, The Who, Peter Gabriel, The Cure, Dire Straits, Herbert Grönemeyer, Lady Gaga, The Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys, Olivia Rodrigo, Sting and countless others have provided around 1,300 concert moments with over three million enthusiastic visitors over the course of 50 years.
“For me, the Stadtpark open-air stage in the Stadtpark is one of the most beautiful, if not the most beautiful open-air venues there is. Its magic comes from the natural setting of hedges and trees, as well as the special feeling of closeness between audience and artists. In the 50 years of Stadtpark Open Air, I have experienced countless legendary concert moments and personal highlights here – this stage has become my “green living room”. I am incredibly happy to see young people discover this special place and to see the enthusiasm carried on across generations,” said Karsten Jahnke, founder of Karsten Jahnke Konzertdirektion, operator of the Stadtpark open air stage and promoter of the Stadtpark Open Air.
Ben Mitha, CEO of Karsten Jahnke Konzertdirektion, said, “We are proud and grateful to have been able to present shows at this unique location for five decades. Even as a child, I experienced and enjoyed concerts by a wide range of artists here. The open-air stage’s atmosphere creates unforgettable live experiences. The mix of international, national and regional acts is a fixture in the Hanseatic city’s cultural scene, which we are honored to bring to life summer after summer. We are looking forward to opening the gates to one of Germany’s most beautiful venues again this anniversary year.”
The 2025 anniversary line-up promises something for everyone, with international stars such as Patti Smith, Camila Cabello, Iggy Pop, Melissa Etheridge, Gregory Porter, Will Smith, Air, Norah Jones, Gianna Nannini, Jorja Smith, Franz Ferdinand, The Corrs, Cypress Hill, Ronan Keating, and Nelly Furtado.
Rock music is represented by Dream Theater, Black Country Communion, as well as Swedish band Takida, the German pop scene by Element Of Crime, Faber, Max Herre & Joy Denalane, Roy Bianco & Die Abbrunzati Boys, Fury In The Slaughterhouse, Lotto King Karl, and Alexander Marcus.
Much-loved Hamburg event formats such as “Der Norden Singt”, “Best Of Poetry Slam”, the “Heaven Can Wait” choir and the “Country-Schlager-Battle”; a live discussion show with Hamburg’s senator for culture and media Carsten Brosda and Literaturhaus director Rainer Moritz; as well as family festivals such as Lütt im Park and Eule findet den Beat round off the program.
Stadtpark Open Air regular, the legendary German comedian Helge Schneider, will perform on two nights, after receiving a silver star on the Stadtpark Walk Of Fame in honor of his 25th Stadtpark show last year.
50 years of Stadtpark Open Air, coincides with 100 years since the Stadtpark open-air stage was built. Originally constructed in 1924 based on the concept of a classical amphitheater it has been used for cultural events such as folk dance, theater and opera performances since 1925.
