Peter Shapiro, much like his biggest influence, seems to have an intangible quality, an “X-factor” if you will, that’s taken him to the highest heights of the live business. It’s the same alchemy that the Grateful Dead conjured during their live shows that made them one of, if not the, greatest live acts of all time. Shapiro, though, manifests this with his uncanny intuition, much to the benefit of his company, Dayglo Presents.
Asked about his most impactful accomplishments, Shapiro unhesitatingly cites a festival partnership that aligns with his values. “In 2025, Dayglo was brought on to revive and produce Pete & Toshi Seeger’s legacy folk festivals as the Hudson River Music Festival. Resurrecting one of the most storied environmental and folk music gatherings in American history,” he says. “It’s one that shaped environmental action and live music culture for over five decades.” This year’s June 21 lineup includes Jesse Welles, Warren Haynes, Grahame Lesh & Daniel Donato, Margo Price and Cimafunk.
In late November, Dayglo announced a partnership with San Antonio’s stunning 900-cap Stable Hall built in the 1890s. It’s the perfect addition to a venue portfolio that includes four Brooklyn Bowls (Brooklyn, Philly, Nashville, Vegas), The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, The Bearsville Theater near Woodstock and Garcia’s in Chicago and Port Chester.
Shapiro sees opportunity in alternative programming as “some of the most exciting innovation happening right now.” He cites a Brooklyn Bowl sound-bath with Charlotte Douglas and “Captain” Kirk Douglas of The Roots and Rock and Roll Playhouse, “a family business booking family concerts across the country during the day when they would otherwise be closed generating ticket, F&B, merch revenue.”
Looking ahead, Shapiro won’t divulge much but says, “We have some very exciting things in the works that we’re not quite ready to announce, but fans of Garcia’s in Chicago will want to keep a close eye on New York City in the coming year.”
