What are your most impactful accomplishments and initiatives over the last year?

Stephen Parker: We launched the first national and state-by-state picture of the economic impact and realities facing the independent live entertainment community. Since January 1st, we have engaged on more than 80 bills across 34 states … We partnered with Spotify to elevate and highlight independent venues on Spotify through our Certified Live Independent seal. We educated fans, advocated, and supported the state attorneys general in their fight to bring justice to Live Nation’s illegal monopoly. We have ensured the world knows that the connection fans and artists feel in independent rooms and at independent festivals is something absolutely worth preserving.

What innovative initiatives in the industry have inspired you?

I’m inspired by the venues and festivals starting to find a solution to one of the single biggest barriers preventing more fans from attending shows: child care.

How are you and your business handling 2026’s uneven economic conditions?

Many independent stages are adjusting to the economic uncertainty gripping communities across the country by offering happy hours, more affordable shows featuring predominantly local acts, and food specials. That nimbleness is making independent venues an available and affordable escape for most middle-class families each night – something we aim to be regardless of the economy’s state.

What’s ahead for you for the rest of 2026/’27?

We’re excited that Republican and Democratic state lawmakers are embracing ticket resale price caps. Half of the state legislation advancing this idea in 2026 was introduced by legislators who acted without prompting or lobbying. They just saw a need. That’s a powerful start.
