Corridos Tumbados Star Natanael Cano Breaks Mexico’s Attendance Record
Natanael Cano, considered to be the godfather of the popular corridos tumbados genre, made history with a performance on Aug. 28, shattering an attendance record in Mexico by drawing more than 310,000 fans to Feria Nacional Potisana in San Luís Potosí.
It’s a remarkable feat for the 23-year-old rapper, one that shows the power and influence of the subgenre that injects elements of hip-hop and trap into Mexican folk music. The two-hour-plus concert was part of his “Tumbado Tour 2024” and broke the country’s previous attendance record of 280,000, which was set last year by Grupo Firme at Zócalo in Mexico City.
It’s been a remarkable summer for Cano, who also performed a sold-out show at the 65,000-capacity Estadio GNP Seguros (formerly known as Foro Sol) in Mexico City on Aug. 23. The show featured an all-star lineup of guests that included Peso Pluma, Gabito Ballesteros, Belinda and Tito Doble P. The special occasion was also broadcast on Disney+ across Latin America, making Cano the first corridos tumbados artist to stream his concert on the platform.
Cano can’t just be contained in the music world and made an appearance at a sporting event, accompanying former boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. for his ring walk before taking on John Gotti III in an exhibition match at Mexico City’s Arena CDMX on Aug. 24.
The young corridos star is touring Mexico but is unable to make his way to the States because of visa issues. Cano played major festivals in his country last year as well as a sold-out solo show at Auditorio Telmex in Zapopan on June 1, 2023, which grossed $636,370 off 8,181 tickets, according to Pollstar Boxoffice.
Cano is repped by WME.
