BRIC, an arts and media institution that has served as a creative catalyst for Brooklyn, announced the lineup for one of its biggest events. The three-day BRIC JazzFest 2024 features a star-studded lineup that includes Gary Bartz, Joaquin Pozo, Caroline Davis, Kassa Overall and more performing at BRIC House Oct. 17-19.

Organizers are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the festival, which will have a total of 18 acts performing over three days, and the theme of “A Decade of Discovery” honors the legacy of the event. Six bands will perform each night, and the lineup boasts artists who represent the past, present and future of the genre.

The event also marks a full-circle moment for Brandee Younger, who was a rising star at BRIC JazzFest in 2015 and is now curating the 10th anniversary edition.

“BRIC JazzFest’s 10th anniversary is a testament to our unwavering commitment to showcasing the very best in jazz, from established icons to the rising stars who will shape the genre’s future,” Viviana Benitez, BRIC JazzFest senior producer, said in a release. “This year’s festival is a celebration of a decade of discovery, and we’re thrilled to share this extraordinary musical journey with Brooklyn and the world.”

NEA Jazz Master Gary Bartz will headline the first evening on Oct. 17 alongside harpist Brandee Younger. Other artists performing that night include drummer Kassa Overall, Josh Johnson, Milena Casado and Mali Obomsawin.

The second evening promises to be “a night of boundary-pushing jazz,” according to the release, with drummer and producer Makaya McCraven, luminary Terri Lyne Carrington, alto saxophonist Caroline Davis and percussionist Daniel Villareal taking the stage.

BRIC JazzFest 2024 plans to go out on a high note with saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin, Reggie Workman, trumpeter Amir Elsaffar, Australian neo-soul artist Allysha Joy and Afro-Cuban artist Joaquin Pozo. The festival will culminate with a jam session honoring jazz drummer Casey Benjamin curated by a local live music experience known as The Jungle, a collaboration of DJs, musicians and artists that embraces genres such as jazz, Latin, Afrobeat, Amapiano, Brazilian, Soul, House, Caribbean and Percussion.

The festival is part of BRIC’s “Raise By Brooklyn” campaign which celebrates the borough’s impact on the community and fostering artistic growth.

Single-day tickets are about $53 with fees and three-day passes go for $138. For more information about the festival and to purchase tickets, visit the event website, bricartsmedia.org/jazzfest2024.
