‘If You Can’t Listen To Music The Right Way, It’s Not Worth It’: Q’s With Amnesia Ibiza’s Stephane Schweitzer
The dance season on Ibiza, Spain, is slowly but surely coming to the end of the season. One of the island’s most famous clubs, Amnesia, has a packed schedule of events until the official season closing party Oct. 11-12.
What sets Amnesia apart from other venues by the team’s own admission is “its attention to detail in terms of light, sound, vibe and everything else” on both its dancefloors, the Main Room as well as the Terrace. Pollstar reached out to Stephane Schweitzer, partner at Amnesia Ibiza, to find out how this is achieved?
Pollstar: How has the sound at Amnesia developed over the past years?
Stephane Schweitzer: In today’s fast-paced world, and as a top nightclub we are always thinking on how to bring the best experience to our clubbers. We believe that sound is probably one of the main aspects to take care of. No matter what headlining talents you have, if you can’t listen to his/her music the right way, it won’t be worth it. That is why, in 2019, we took a step up in our sound system, by creating a custom-made sound experience side by side with KV2 Audio. We started in the main room, but due to the pandemic in 2020, we had to postpone the upgrade in the Terrace. After the crisis, we re-opened our club with an exclusive new sound system in both dancefloors, turning Amnesia into one of the clubs with the best sound of the island.
Which company designed the audio?
The system was designed by PLUSMUSIC INTERNATIONAL, a multinational sales and consultancy firm that specializes in event venue development through AV technologies. With headquarters in Switzerland, and operations in Ibiza and the United States, PLUSMUSIC has a portfolio of world-renowned nightclubs, event venues and production partners in its track record that made them a natural partner for the project. KV2’s unique SLA technology delivers unprecedented levels of dynamic range, ultra-low distortion, extreme clarity and, crucially, unparalleled definition over distance as well as digital electronics components with the highest sampling rate ever used in a professional loudspeaker system.
Did the building undergo any upgrades, renovations, since the 2023 season?
We are constantly thinking and executing upgrades focused on bringing the best experience for all the clubbers enjoying the Amnesia experience. Not only in technical issues such as sound quality, screens, lights, lasers, but also in security, service, customer service aspects where small details make a huge difference. In 2023 we renovated our smoking rooftop into a mixology bar called “Above Sky Lounge” where you can enjoy creative snacks with some of our signature cocktails. In 2024, we introduced private thematic VIP rooms that can be booked for the night. We’ve designed four private rooms with different thematics: a sophisticated room by Don Julio 1942, a psychedelic room, the kinky “yes to all” room, and a sylvan gold room by Armand de Brignac. And for 2025, we will introduce…wait, shhhh, no spoiling.
Does Amnesia sell tickets through its own channels?
Our primary sales channel is the Amnesia website, powered by our key partner, CM.com. This ticketing platform set foot in the Balearics for the first time by our side, and together, we have optimized the ticketing experience for our buyers, collaborating closely to innovate and engage more effectively with our online customers. In addition, we distribute tickets through Ibiza’s leading sales platforms, which serve as our official partners.
Are all of these announced shows produced/promoted in-house? How do you choose your partner who you work it?
At Amnesia we prioritize passion for music and dancing since five decades, this is our DNA. We aim to be a diverse club, created for all clubbers and fans to experience true freedom through dancing. This is why we don’t restrict ourselves to one simple musical genre, we partner up with promoters and artists that enhance our vision and share our authentic values focused on enjoying the music, dancing and living in the real present. We are a space for all, in our dancefloor people can stress it all out and delete their memories listening to techno, house, tech-house, minimal, melodic techno, uk garage and even latin music.
