BIG BUSINESS IN A SMALL WORLD
There are some people working in this industry who don’t want the limelight. They feel it’s reserved for the artists they represent. Doris Dixon, director of Marshall Arts, is such a human being. Getting the job done is all she needs to feel accomplished. And what a job she and her team have been doing.
P!NK’s “Summer Carnival Tour,” for instance, which spanned two years and completed its second European leg in 2024. This year alone, fans scooped up more than 1.5 million tickets for the show. She sold 102,031 tickets sold across two shows at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium June 15-16, grossing $14,640,528; or 105,432 tickets sold for two concerts at Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam, Netherlands, raking in $13,560,514 contributed to this remarkable number.
“When P!NK’s team were setting up her ‘Summer Carnival Tour’,” says Dixon, “they aimed to create a visual spectacle that would redefine stadium shows in Europe. We had to consider this when delivering a routing to P!NK, her manager Roger Davies and their team.” P!NK’s reputation for high-flying stunts meant fans expected something extraordinary and, according to Dixon, “She delivered. Her production pushed the boundaries of what’s typically seen in a live show. These features don’t just excite fans; they demand a new level of coordination and precision from everyone involved in the staging of her concerts. Perhaps one of the most substantial impacts has been the inspiration P!NK has offered to artists and their teams. By integrating stunts, intricate lighting and fan-focused interactivity, her team is demonstrating how a tour can remain artistically cutting-edge while achieving record-breaking numbers.”
Dixon grew up in a musical household. “We always had music playing at home, particularly Elvis as he was my mother’s favourite artiste. Then The Beatles arrived and music changed.” It never fails to amaze her that Paul McCartney is now one of Marshall Arts’ clients. Dixon’s love for live music was also ignited as a child. “I went with my mother and grandmother to the Astoria Theatre, London, and saw my first concert. The bill consisted of two openers, followed by Lulu, the Walker Brothers, and headliner Roy Orbison. I understand, but am not totally sure, that Barrie Marshall was possibly the agent – now that is what you call a small world!”
