Southside Johnny’s Poor Fools
Billed as Southside Johnny & The Poor Fools, each evening’s set list will consist of a wide cross section of music, described as Southside Johnny Lyon’s “eclectic version of the Great American Songbook,” with the Poor Fools playing everything from Bob Dylan tunes to NRBQ and songs from Muddy Waters, Richard Thompson, Emmylou Harris, The Band, George Jones, Mose Allison as well as a few Jukes standards.
Who are the Poor Fools? Featuring a couple of Asbury Jukes members – Jeff Kazee and John Conte – the band also includes Tommy Byrnes who has worked with Billy Joel for a number of years, and E Street Band violinist Soozie Tyrell.
Although Southside Johnny & The Poor Fools play the Jeremy’s Heroes Foundation Fall Gala at New York City’s Guastavino’s Oct. 6, the real night-after-night touring doesn’t begin until the band pulls into Collinsville, Conn., for a gig at Bridge Street Live Nov. 10. Other stops include Danbury, Conn., at The Palace Nov. 11; Piermont, N.Y., at The Turning Point Nov. 12; Bay Shore, N.Y., at the YMCA Boulton Center For The Performing Arts Nov. 14; Fairfield, Conn., at Stage One Nov. 15 and Old Saybrook, Conn., at The Kate Nov. 16.
“It will be a loose mix of songs, stories and banter between the musicians and – hopefully – the audience,” Southside Johnny said in a statement. “Just lookin’ to have a good time. It’ll be a little side trip between the usual Asbury Jukes touring and our next recording.”
