Video Diversion: Cheap Trick Unleashes Its Inner Mariachi
A contest sponsored by a tequila company showcases Cheap Trick’s mariachi skills.
Robin Zander, Rick Nielsen and Tom Petersson contributed a mariachi version of the 1970s classic “Surrender” to Hornitos Tequila’s “Mariachi Mash Up” that invites bands to make specific songs appear as if they originated south of the border.
Along with “Surrender,” other songs waiting for their mariachi mash up moment include Peter, Bjorn and John’s “Young Folks,” “What I Like About You” by The Romantics, Passion Pit’s “Little Secrets” and The Kingsmen’s historic recording of “Louie Louie.” Winners will be announced on June 6 with the top band receiving a $10,000 prize.
