Rain’s Storm Continues

K-pop superstar Rain is once again the target of a U.S. lawsuit filed by promoter Andrew Kim, who has already sued the singer for failing to fulfill a concert engagement in 2007.

This time Kim is suing Rain (real name Jung Ji-Hoon) for fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, conversion, breach of contract and unjust enrichment. Kim is also suing to get Rain to reclaim money he owes for gambling debts.

According to documents filed in the U.S. District Court in California, Kim describes Rain as a habitual gambler who, during his stay at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas in 2007, frequently played baccarat with money that Kim advanced him while he was there preparing for the ill-fated concerts. The singer’s gambling debts, according to Kim, come to about $150,000.

Rain’s management company, J.Tune, issued a statement refuting the claims of the lawsuit, saying Kim’s charges are false and that the promoter is simply continuing a personal vendetta against the singer.

The suit comes at a particularly bad time for Rain.

The singer-actor’s return to TV in the drama series “Fugitive: Plan B” has been less than glorious, according to the Korea Herald. The show is being soundly beaten in the ratings by a rival drama.

Also, Kim has told media that Rain earlier asked him to be introduced to someone in the U.S. who could obtain an American green card for the singer so that he could avoid his mandatory military service in Korea.

Such allegations could have a seriously negative effect on Rain’s image.
