Southern All-Star Diagnosed With Cancer
Keisuke Kuwata, the leader of Japan’s most popular rock band, Southern All Stars, now on hiatus, was diagnosed with early-stage cancer of the esophagus in late July.
The 54-year-old singer-songwriter underwent six hours of surgery two weeks ago and is recuperating in an undisclosed hospital.
Doctors called the operation a success and commented that Kuwata is in better condition than they thought.
As a result of the illness, Kuwata has canceled his nationwide solo concert tour, which was scheduled to begin Oct. 28. He will also delay the release of his album, which was set for Oct. 20.
