According to the Cedar Rapids Gazette, the crew member, who matched the description of a man attempting to make contact with entertainers during the show, was stopped by the deputy backstage.

After handing the deputy his credentials, the crew member attempted to run away, the Gazette said, and was stunned by the officer.

“I have the fair police statement and witness statements and at this point I see no wrongdoing,” Sheriff Mark Denniston told the paper. “He was following protocol.”

Just two days later, concerts at the fair were brought to an abrupt close after heavy rains caused the Maquoketa River to flood the nearby Lake Delhi dam.

A Styx, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts and Grand Funk Railroad show was canceled amid concerns the river would breach the fairgrounds.
