Donny & Marie Osmond Cancel More Shows
The canceled dates would have taken place March 16-20. The brother and sister duo’s musical variety show will return to the stage March 23.
Michael Bryan died Feb. 26. Police said he died from an apparent suicide after jumping from the eighth floor of a downtown Los Angeles apartment building. He reportedly left behind a note that noted a lifelong battle with depression.
Bryan is one of Osmond’s five adopted children. She also has three other children from two marriages. She and Brian Blosil divorced in 2007 following her split with first husband Stephen Craig in 1985. Bryan previously used his adoptive father’s last name, Blosil, before going through with a legal name change, according to records from Utah’s 4th District Court.
Marie Osmond’s publicist Alan Nierob said “that it’s been a difficult time for the Osmonds, and the performer felt like she needed to spend more with her family,” according to the Associated Press.
After her son’s sudden death Marie Osmond released the following statement on her Web site:
“My family and I are devastated and in deep shock by the tragic loss of our deal Michael and ask that everyone respect our privacy during this difficult time.”
Performances were canceled March 2-6. The show resumed March 9 after a private funeral service for Blosil was held March 8 in a Mormon chapel near the Provo Utah Temple.
Donny and Marie were initially going to take a two-week vacation in April but have instead added shows April 13-17 to make up for the first round of dates canceled in March.
Their Las Vegas manager, Chip Lightman, said Marie Osmond was glad to be back on stage because she found the performances “cathartic,” according to Las Vegas Tours And Attractions.
The duo began their residency at the Flamingo in September 2008. Performances take place Tuesday through Saturday with the show dark on Sunday and Mondays.
