Prince’s Ode To The Vikings

What does Prince have in common with the Minnesota Vikings? That is, other than calling the land of 10,000 lakes home and a fondness for the color purple? How about a song?

Prince has recorded an original tune for the NFL team. Saying he hadn’t seen the Vikings play in years, the artist formerly known as a symbol told Twin Cities Fox affiliate KMSP-TV that he wrote the song after seeing the team destroy Dallas at the Metrodome last weekend.

Called “Purple and Gold” and described as “hymn-like,” the song includes lines that are pure Prince, such as “ready 2 celebrate every score, ready 2 fight the elegant war, ready 2 hear the crowd roar, that’s what we came 4, and so much more, in the name of the purple and gold.”

Vikings wide receiver Bernard Berrian thanked the Purple One for the song via Twitter, saying, “He’s is definitely one of my favorites.”
