King Of Merch
While Jackson’s O2 shows will go down in history as the biggest comeback that might have been, his tour merch is alive and well and on sale now at MichaelJacksonMerch.com.
Peter LoFrumento, a spokesman for merchandising company Bravo, said that Jackson signed off on every item for sale and even helped design some of them.
“Michael was very adamant about not just doing T-shirts and posters and key chains,” he explained. “He wanted to do something special and make it really innovative and different, things that were functional and fun and that his fans would like.”
Besides the obligatory T-Shirts, the “functional and fun” items for sale on the merch site include key chains, belt buckles, caps, sunglasses, jewelry, a sleep mask, commemorative plates, mugs, a corkscrew/bottle opener, wine glasses, playing cards, scarves, hats, wallets, tote bags, CDs, mp3 downloads and – of course – socks (in glittery and non-glittery versions).
And to be honest, most of it doesn’t suck. (Although I think the wine glasses and corkscrew/bottle opener might be on the limits of good taste – if you know what I mean.) The prices are also pretty reasonable as far as tour merch goes, especially when you consider that every single piece of it is now more of a collectors’ item than it would have been had the shows happened.
Wonder when it’ll start showing up on eBay? (Not to mention who’ll be putting it there – wink, wink…)
