But then, what would you expect from the No. 1 metal band in the world?

Both commercials begin like previous “Guitar Hero” ads – the recreation of the famous scene in “Risky Business” where Tom Cruise dances to Bob Seger’s recording of “Old Time Rock & Roll.”  Minus Tom Cruise, of course.

But it’s an entirely new ad when Metallica enters the picture. Like in this first spot where James Hetfield tells a Leslie Nielsen lookalike to “put on some pants, Pops.”

The second ad is a bit more devious. Like the first, it begins with the “Risky Business” scenario, but quickly transforms into something more threatening as the band ties the old dudes in the first commercial to a tree and then blows up the house.

Then there’s the longer video depicting band members and their computer-generated doppelgangers.

What we’re getting at is that, regardless of what you think of Metallica, the band sure knows how to sell games. Makes you wonder what other product commercials would benefit from the Metallica touch.
