The 13,000-square-meter facility will serve 1,800 children in La Playa, which has been declared an educational emergency zone, according to the Barefoot Foundation’s Web site.

The school will offer academic, artistic and vocational programs, as well as bilingual education services, the site said.

The La Playa school is the fifth the Barefoot Foundation has built through contributions from donors including Shakira, German television network RTLTV, the city of Madrid, Hard Rock Café and SEAT.
