NIN Tour Film Evaporates

A project to capture Nine Inch Nails’ latest tour on film has gone kaput.

In a message to fans at NIN.com, Trent Reznor explained that a special free performance was to be filmed in 3D by “Terminator” director James Cameron’s team. The result was to have a theatrical release and be available on DVD and Blu-ray.

Reznor said the project failed because “a certain record company that owns some of the song rights” dilly-dallied before ultimately declining to produce and fund it.

“We then achieved the impossible by finding alternate producing / funding but the timetable is too rushed to get it filmed comfortably with the remaining time left on the tour,” he explained. The U.S. tour ends Dec. 13.

After saying the band’s 2008 outing was “certainly the best thing I’ve ever been involved with and likely the final tour for NIN on this scale,” Reznor dealt another blow to fans, adding, “The shows we have announced in 2009 and any more that may be announced will be a completely different approach with some different personnel and will likely by the last for the foreseeable future.”
