The band will warm up for the trek with a handful of West Coast stops, including at Viva! in Los Angeles (August 18), The Independent in San Francisco (August 25), and The Shore in Hermosa Beach, Calif. (August 29). They’ll also make an appearance with Los Lonely Boys August 22 at the Pine Mountain Amphitheater in Flagstaff, Ariz.
The Fire In The Youth tour launches in earnest with a pair of shows September 1-2 at Moe’s Alley in Santa Cruz, Calif., and will see the band on the road through the middle of November. Other stops on the schedule include Nectar Lounge in Seattle (September 8), The Abbey Pub in Chicago (September 14), Beachland Ballroom & Tavern in Cleveland (September 21), The Canal Room in New York City (September 27), Smith’s Olde Bar in Atlanta (October 11), Jack Rabbits in Jacksonville, Fla. (October 16), The Beta Bar in Tallahassee, Fla. (October 22), La Zona Rosa in Austin (November 2), and The Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood, Calif. (November 9).
Rounding out the bill for most of the tour are singer Salvador Santana (son of Carlos Santana) and Cipes and the People.
Youth is B-Side Players’ seventh release and the first on new label Concord/Picante. The disc was produced by the band with help from Quetzal Flores, leader of the Los Angeles chicano rock band Quetzal, and continues their tradition of melding the sounds of Cuba, Jamaica, Mexico and Brazil with American funk, rock, jazz and hip-hop rhythms.
Frontman Karlos “Solrak” Paez said Flores’ participation helped the band polish their sound and move closer to their goal of a pan-Latin sound.
“We want our sound to continue to grow until we represent the entire range of Latin music,” Paez said.
