The pint-sized singer will get the ball rolling by performing a few songs April 1 at NASA in Reykjavik, Iceland as part of a benefit being held to raise awareness of eating disorders.

The North American leg kicks off with a headlining appearance at the sold-out Coachella Festival in Indio, Calif., on April 27.

The initial run of dates in the States includes three shows at three different New York City Venues, along with stops in Chicago, Denver, Vancouver and San Francisco, and will finish up May 26 with another headlining turn at the Sasquatch Festival in George, Wash.

After taking a month’s break, the tour will resume in Europe June 22 at the Glastonbury Festival in England.

While the next North American date on the schedule isn’t until the Virgin Festival September 8 in Toronto, Ontario, the singer’s web site promises more dates will be added in the near future.

A ticket presale for Björk’s San Francisco show will begin March 22 for subscribers of her web site, with sales to the general public beginning March 24. Presales for all other North American shows begin March 28, with general sales beginning March 30.

Volta, Björk’s sixth full-length studio album, is scheduled for release May 7. The album features contributions from a host of musicans including Timbaland, Antony & The Johnsons frontman Antony Hegarty and a ten piece female Icelandic brass section.

On her web site, the singer says the songs on Volta mark the first time she has ever musically expressed her feelings about the state of the world.

“I am, like many people, quite upset about how things are in the world now,” Björk said. “And while I am a musician, I want to maybe be a spokesperson for the people in the street, who are pretty pissed off in general.”
