Roger Waters Moves Israel Concert
(Associated Press) Roger Waters is moving his June concert in Israel from Park Hayarkon in Tel Aviv to a chickpea field next to Neve Shalom because of Palestinian protests, Israeli media have reported.
Waters, bass player and vocalist for Pink Floyd group from its birth in the 1960s until its members drifted apart two decades later, has lent his support to a pro-Palestinian movement urging removal of the security fence being constructed along the West Bank.
Park Hayarkon was the scene of several such appearances every year, where up to 200,000 people sit on the grass.
On the other hand, moving the concert to Neve Shalom would cost millions of shekels to compensate the chickpea growers, whose fields were planned to be uprooted to accommodate the performance.
Neve Shalom – which translates to “Village of Peace” – was established jointly by Jews and Palestinian Arabs of Israeli citizenship.
