As your grandparents will surely attest, 20 years of the same ol’, same ol’ can wear anyone down. Luckily for us, however, the Internet breathed new life into the old monster, and the band is coming to the U.S. this spring with renewed vigor.

Their three-and-a-half-week excursion begins April 23 in Washington, D.C., and hits both coasts plus some of the Midwest and South before wrapping May 16 in Asheville, N.C. Current plans include two Canadian dates.

The band’s Web site stresses that all North American shows will be played without support acts – just pure, unadulterated Neubauten.

They’re currently playing shows in Europe, pushing their latest full-length, Perpetuum Mobile, which was released February 9 on Mute. In a fit of inspiration, the band took the novel step of installing Webcams in their studio so that fans who paid a one-time fee could watch the recording proceedings at neubauten.org. Other perks included a unique physical copy of the record, different from that released in stores.

Founding member Blixa Bargeld announced his departure from Nick Cave’s Bad Seeds last year after 20 years as guitarist. He cited his desire to concentrate more fully on Einstürzende Neubauten as well as his increasing involvement in film and theatre work. Bargeld formed Neubauten in Berlin with N.U. Unruh in 1980.
