Sammy Hagar Rocks The Firehouse
Hagar and his Waboritas are putting on a free lunchtime rally and concert to save firehouses around New York. The May 19 show will be held at Battery Park, NYC, at noon.
The free concert is part of a continuing effort by city firefighters and the Uniformed Firefighters Association to educate New Yorkers about the public safety danger if Mayor Michael Bloomberg goes ahead with his plan to close the firehouses.
“I figured it was time to make some serious noise, just in case the Mayor hadn’t heard the message from my brothers and sisters at the FDNY,” Hagar said.
Mayor Bloomberg has threatened to close eight NYC firehouses in order to save $11 million out of the massive $44 billion city budget. May 23 is slated as closing day.
“We are grateful that Sammy Hagar has come to us now for the second time to lend his support for our cause,” Stephen Cassidy of Uniformed Firefighters Association said. “Not only is Sammy an incredible talent, he is a friend our firefighters can depend on.”
