Rhode Island Nightclub Benefit
The April 22 concert will feature performances from at least 15 acts ranging from church groups to Southern rock bands. It will be held at the Providence Performing Arts Center, which has offered use of its venue free of charge. Tickets prices are $35, $45 and $50.
Officials including Gov. Don Carcieri said at a Statehouse ceremony that all proceeds from the concert would go to The Station Nightclub Fire Relief Fund, the main repository for donations to those affected by the Feb. 20 blaze that killed 99 people and injured nearly 200 others.
Among those scheduled to perform are country music artist and Rhode Island native Billy Gilman; Ricky Medlocke, formerly of Lynyrd Skynyrd; the Southern Rock All-Stars (former members of Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot and the Rossington Band); Rick Derringer; Phoebe Snow; and Servants and Saints, a church group from West Warwick and Coventry.
Ken Botelho, a local promoter, said more bands will be added, adding that he has eight phone messages from musicians asking to join the benefit.
“These people are coming out of the woodwork,” he said.”This list is far from being complete.”
