Happy Anniversary To Tipitina’s
Among the themed gigs scheduled for the 10-day-long run are Tip’s Allstars, Horns & Hatchets, the Founder’s Ball, the Anniversary Cajun Fais Do Do, and the Radiators’ 25th Anniversary Party.
The Founder’s Ball will honor the 14 people who created the club, with an all-star lineup for the evening, including performances from Dr. John, Cyril Neville, Ivan Neville, George Porter Jr., and many others.
Rounding out the series is a two-night stand celebrating the Radiators‘ silver anniversary. Special guests will join the Radiators for both shows.
Other artists scheduled to show up at one point or another during Tipitina’s celebration include The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Lil Rascals, Jon Cleary & The Absolute Monster Gentlemen, Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra, Galactic, Tommy Malone, John Mooney and many others.
Tipitina’s began as a neighborhood juke joint back in 1977. The club was established by a group of young music fans (known as The Fabulous Fo’teen) to provide a place for Professor Longhair to perform in his final years. The Professor is one of the most revered rhythm & blues musicians in the legacy of New Orleans music.
Throughout its 25 years, Tipitina’s has grown from a small neighborhood bar into a venerable music venue. Artists including Better Than Ezra, Pearl Jam, Wilco, Nine Inch Nails, Lenny Kravitz, Bonnie Raitt, Widespread Panic, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Tim McGraw, and countless others have graced the club’s stage, helping cement Tipitina’s as an international music icon.
