King Dobro
OK, maybe that’s exaggerating a little bit. He’s only been on about 1,000 albums. Amy Grant, Barbara Mandrell,Garth Brooks, Lyle Lovett and Phish are some of the artists who have asked Douglas to lend them a hand, either musically or as producer.
Lately, the dobro player has made a living as a member of Alison Krauss & Union Station, but the line “featuring Jerry Douglas” is always added to the marquee. The five-time Grammy winner is also known for being a major player, along with T-Bone Burnett, in getting the Down From The Mountain album together.
His latest solo album, Lookout For Hope, features star turns by James Taylor, Trey Anastasio and Sam Bush. Maura O’Connell, a favorite collaborator with Douglas, again makes an appearance.
Douglas and his band show off their chops beginning at Massachusetts’ Somerville Theatre October 11 and swing through the Eastern states, Florida and Georgia through the next month, ending at Charlston, W.V.’s Cultural Center on November 10.
