Olympic Opening Ceremonies Get Stung
The opening ceremony for this year’s Winter Olympics gets another dose of star power with the addition of Sting. The recent winner of a Golden Globe award joins the lineup of Dixie Chicks, LeAnn Rimes, Rita Coolidge and Walela, Robbie Robertson, Yo-Yo Ma, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and other groups.
“These performers will help create our theme Light The Fire Within and the power of the Olympics in what promises to be the show of a lifetime,” said Mitt Romney, SLOC President and CEO.
Said Don Mischer, executive producer for the opening and closing ceremonies, “We looked for artists that have agreed to put themselves in the Olympic context and perform music that helps us in terms of what we’re doing on the field.”
“We are very careful in how artists weave into the show.”
The February 8 event, to be held at the
