The eclectic singer has swapped the big for the better on her latest tour, set to kick off in Paris August 18. She plays Europe – with a quick stop in New York for the “Late Show with David Letterman” September 4 – until October 7 when she comes to Toronto for her North American tour opener.

It was Björk’s wish for this tour, her first in three years, to play in halls that had the “best acoustics possible.” So, she booked some of the grandest and most beautiful concert halls in Europe and America, among them London Coliseum, home of the English National Opera.

In addition to the confirmed concerts, Björk has also planned a series of very small (300 people, maximum) performances, which dates will be announced on the day of the show. Playing at such small venues will allow her to sing sans microphone, a rare treat for fans.

Electronica duo Martin Schmidt and Andrew Daniel, collectively known as Matmos, will open the show. After their half-hour slot, they’ll join in as part of Björk’s band, which includes electric harpist Zeena Parkins.

An Inuit girls choir from Greenland and Canadian throat singer Tagaq also join in the mix of artists accompanying the Icelandic singer.
