Pumpkins’ Farewell Tour Continues
The band has scheduled shows November 11, 12 and 14 in Centurion, Durban and Cape Town. The Pumpkins, in Europe now, will wind down those dates November 3 and 4 at Wembley Arena in London.
Frontman Billy Corgan announced earlier in the year that the band would split at the end of 2000. They have recently released what amounts to a final album on the Internet, after distributing copies to 25 fans and asking them to distribute MP3s of all the songs on the Web. There are no plans to distribute the record commercially.
The album, called Machina II: The Friends and Enemies of Modern Music, consists of 25 songs taken from the MACHINA/the machines of God sessions and available via Napster and other Internet locations.
The Pumpkins are not going out quietly – their latest video, “Try, Try, Try” has run up against television censors for graphic scenes of heroin use despite the cautionary tone of the clip. A director’s cut is available on the band’s Web site.
