The 51-year-old performer has been diagnosed with primary sclerosing cholangitis, which blocks the bile ducts and leads to cirrhosis. The disease is marked by fatigue, followed by yellow in the pigment of the eyes and skin.

Doctors say many patients with the condition survive only about two years without a transplant. The cause of the disease is not known but it is apparently not linked to hepatitis, alcohol consumption or anabolic steroid use.

LeDoux’s doctors said he can make a full recovery with a transplant. He has been added to organ donation waiting lists.

The cowboy crooner was hospitalized in August for liver problems and was forced to cancel a number of concerts. At first, the cause of his symptoms was undetermined but he sought treatment from specialists who made the PSC diagnosis.

He returned to the road September 15 and plans to fulfill his current tour itinerary except for two dates; his shows in San Dimas, Calif., September 28 and in Red Bluff, Calif., September 30 have been canceled.
