A down payment for her appearance was not received by the July 5 deadline, CAA Nashville Agent Rod Essig told the Dodge City Daily Globe.

“The exact reason is that they are in breach of contract,” Essig told the paper. “We didn’t get a deposit from them and as of Monday (July 10), Starstruck Management, Reba’s management company, decided not to do the show.”

Event organizers Carolyn and Keith Smith apparently didn’t have the necessary funding to produce the show and naively thought advance ticket sales would raise enough money for the down payment by the contract deadline.

“We didn’t know everyone waits until the last minute to buy their tickets,” Mrs. Smith told the Daily Globe. “There were just not enough tickets sold in advance to make the down payment.”

The organizers reportedly tried to persuade McEntire’s camp to keep the date, saying ticket sales had picked up in the last couple of weeks, but to no avail.

The non-profit event, put on by the Pieces of a Dream Foundation to benefit 4-H leadership programs, was to feature McEntire and Wade Kimes.

Kimes will reportedly still perform as part of a July 30th Wild Wild West concert featuring Mindy McCready, The Kinleys, Sawyer Brown, and The Marchels.

Those who purchased tickets for the McEntire concert are being allowed to use those tickets for the June 30 show or can receive a refund after August 1, Smith said.
