How To Shock A GWAR Singer
Hymen, acting as a “barker” for a multimedia variety sideshow called “Girly Freak Show,” will perform the Tesla Coil Stunt, which promoters tell Pollstar involves 200,000 volts of electricity and a water tank. Sounds electrifying, to say the least.
A film crew from Ripley’s Believe It Or Not will be shooting the stunt for future broadcast, according to the Dragon Con Web site.
GWAR, as a group, is expected to perform at a separate time, for perhaps the only time this year.
Dragon Con is billed as the largest science fiction conference in the U.S., and for this year’s event, Cammunity.com will provide live webcasts from Atlanta, including the “electrocution” of the GWAR frontwoman, a Cammunity.com spokesperson told Pollstar.
For GWAR fans, there will be a slide show chronicling the story behind the traveling freak show called GWAR, as well as a premiere of a concert film about the band.
The film, “It’s Sleazy!” is billed as a “mini-movie that picks up where cult classics ‘Phallus In Wonderland’ and ‘Skulhedface’ left off.” It also includes the return of GWAR’s manager, Sleazy P. Martini, according to Dragon Con’s Web site.
Band members will man a booth at the conference to sign autographs and push merchandise. GWAR reportedly has no plans to tour this year.
This marks the fifth consecutive year GWAR has participated in Dragon Con, which is expected to attract 20,000 geeks, dorks and nerds to the Atlanta Hyatt from June 29 – July 2, organizers told Pollstar.
The conference includes much of the usual sci-fi confab fare, such as Star Trek and Babylon 5 panels, but also includes an annual Robot Battles Competition, WCW Wrestling and a Dragon Con Sci-Fi Costume Party.
