MAMA Boogies In Maryland
The June 16-17 event is organized by Higher Ground Productions in the hope of “expanding the audience’s listening experience.”
The first day of MAMA Fest will see Ratdog featuring Bob Weir, the gospel-inspired harmonies of the reunited subdudes, Merle Saunders with his Funky Friends, and others.
The performers on June 17 include Dr. John, an encore performance from the subdudes, Toots & the Maytals, and John Mayall & The Blues Breakers.
“We want to put together an eclectic lineup,” Higher Ground VP Gabe Selko told Pollstar. “A blues fan might come to hear John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers and discover Nathan & the Zydeco Cha Cha’s in the process.”
Selko said the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival has served as a model for the musical mix but MAMA has evolved into its own thing.
“We offer a variety of entertainment away from the main stage that won’t be found anywhere else,” he said. “There’s performance art, drum exhibitions, a costume parade — all kinds of crazy stuff.”
In addition to being a family-friendly event, MAMA Fest is offering something rarely seen at any concert: Free parking.
