Industry Noize: Sherman Halsey Memorial Set

Sherman Halsey was found dead at his home by an acquaintance who went to check on him at the request of family members in Tulsa, police told the Tulsa World.

A cause of death was not reported, though police at the time said foul play was not suspected.

Halsey directed more than 70 music videos for country artists including Tim McGraw, Brooks & Dunn, Alan Jackson, Leon Russell, and The Oak Ridge Boys.

He got his start putting up show bills for his father’s Jim Halsey Co. roster, became vice chairman of that company from 1980-90, headed with his father the MCA/Churchill Record Co., and remained a partner in the Halsey family entertainment education business until his death.

During his lifetime, Sherman Halsey received numerous awards including an MTV Award, multiple Academy of Country Music awards, Country Music Television’s Flameworthy award and was on the board of Belmont University’s music business program.

The Nashville memorial is from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at BMI, 10 Music Square East.
