Decemberists Add Second Benefit Show
When we reported on the initial May 30 “V is for Victory” concert last week we noted that the show marked the first gig for The Decemberists in nearly three years.
The second show is scheduled May 29. Both gigs take place in the band’s hometown at Portland’s McMenamins Crystal Ballroom.
In addition to playing every track of Castaways and Cutouts, The Decemberists will play “a second set of sentimental favorites.”
An announcement from the band says that Laura Veirs will be the special guest at the May 29 show “but the rest of the details remain the same” as far as the setlist and benefit are concerned.
Proceeds go to Victory Academy, Oregon’s only full-time accredited school for kids on the autism spectrum.
Tickets for the first show sold out “very quickly.” Tickets for the second gig went on sale today at 12 p.m. Pacific Time. VIP tickets are available including early entrance to the show; a pre-show reception with the band; and a signed, limited-edition poster.
Next month frontman Colin Meloy and Black Prairie will appear at another Portland benefit. The second annual
Black Prairie features the other members of The Decemberists: Chris Funk, Jenny Conlee, Nate Query and John Moen. The lineup for the Cabinet of Wonders also includes Jim James, Wesley Stace, Ural Thomas and the Pain, Pink Martini’s China Forbes, Laura Veirs, Bobcat Goldthwait, Willy Vlautin, and The Long Winters’ John Roderick. Tickets are available now.
