The Fray To Kick Off ‘Global Citizens Nights’

Joining The Fray on Global Citizens Nights series’ launch at Emo’s in Austin, Texas, March 10 will be Allen Stone and Saints Of Valory.  Lineups have not yet been announced for concerts planned for Nashville, Chicago and St. Louis.

Supported by AEG Live, EKOCYCLE and the World Food Program USA, the Global Citizens Nights Series will highlight four key issues – food aid reform, water and sanitation, global education and polio eradication.  Collectively, the concerts are an extension of the annual Global Citizen Festival in New York’s Central Park which featured Stevie Wonder, Kings Of Leon and Alicia Keys in 2013.

Although the concerts are free that doesn’t mean admission is yours for the taking. You need to earn your ticket by taking action to wipe out extreme poverty.  From sending tweets to watching related videos to signing petitions, the goal is for fans to become global citizens.

One of the ways you can participate is to sign the World Food Program USA’s petition demanding Congress to modernize food aid to help more than 1.7 million impoverished people.

Of course, there’s a limited amount of seats regardless of how many people decide to join in the fight.  Eighty percent of the tickets will go to Global Citizens via lottery with the remaining 20 percent going on sale to the general public. 

“Whereas the Global Citizen Festival in Central park is timed to engage world leaders by coinciding with the UN General Assembly, the Global Citizen Nights concert series lets us bring major artists to small venues as a reward to young, energetic, and socially conscious Global Citizens who are engaging us online, “ Global Poverty Project CEO Hugh Evans said.  “It’s an opportunity to reward Global Citizens in their hometowns and encourage global action at the local level.”
