Kanye West’s Six-Month Promise

While performing in Toronto last week, Kanye West made a promise that seems almost impossible for the singer/rapper to carry out – keeping his mouth shut for six months.

No stranger to controversy, West’s collection of greatest rants for 2013 include a six-minute diatribe against Nike, the company he partnered with to release his “Air Jeezy” shoe in 2009.  Talking to his fans during a concert at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, West claimed the company had dropped the ball on his sneaker.

“Did you not want the Yeezys,” West said.  “Nike would make you believe it was my fault that you couldn’t get them, but that was not the case.  I wanted there to be as many Yeezys as there was LeBrons, and I wanted them to be at a good price, but that was not my choice, and we’re going to change everything. And … I’m going to create more than you think that any musician in the history of time ever could have.”

Earlier this month West expressed his displeasure with the Grammys.  Although he received a best rap song nomination for “New Slaves” and a best rap album nom for Yeezus, West spent a few minutes during his concert at Phoenix’s US Airways Center telling his fans he deserved more Grammy love.

Yeezus is the top one or two albums on every single list, but only gets two nominations from the Grammys,” West said.  “What are they trying to say?”

West isn’t necessarily hurting for lack of Grammys.   So far in his career West has received 53 nominations and has been awarded 21 golden gramophones.

Now West is promising some quiet time.

“This might be the last time y’all hear me talk shit for a long time.” West told the Air Canada Centre audience last week.  “Might be another like six months.  At least.  You’re just gonna have to run back the interviews and shit if you wanna hear some realness!”

Do you think West will keep his word?  After all, June is soooo very far in the future.
