A Wacken Ahead

Not only did German metal bash Wacken Open Air sell out nearly nine months in advance, but organizers have already sold out next year’s event.

All the 2014 tickets went within a couple of days of this year’s 75,000-capacity Wacken ending Aug. 3.

Wacken promoter Thomas Jensen reported “one of the hottest Wacken Open Airs of all times” as temperatures hit 30C (86F) throughout the weekend.

It also had the final show on Rammstein’s summer festival tour, which has reportedly made the German band Europe’s “must see” rock act.

WOA’s 2014 lineup will include Amon Amarth, Apocalyptica with an orchestra, Arch Enemy, Children of Bodom, and Iced Earth. Further acts will be announced Sept. 28 at Metal Dayz in Hamburg, Wacken’s contribution to the city’s Reeperbahn Festival. This year’s Wacken Aug. 1-3 also had Agnostic Front, Alice Cooper, Arch Enemy, As I Lay Dying, Deep Purple, Manowar, Motorhead, and Lamb Of God.
