Don’t Go Chasing Replacement Singers
The two surviving members of TLC have spent a lot of time in Japan since reemerging several years ago, and on the 18th anniversary their biggest hit, “Waterfalls,” the R&B trio released a new version of the song in Japan with local singer Namie Amuro singing the part originally covered by the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.
However, according to Consequence of Sound, the new version has met with disapproval from Lopes’ family. Lopes’ sister, Reigndrop Lopes, told TMZ that she didn’t know about the new version until a “fan posted it online.”
She added that as long as the song remained Japan-only, the family wouldn’t say anything. Elsewhere on the Internet, fans of the group seem unimpressed with the new version and simply see it as another chance to cash in on a beloved song.
