Cancellations: Motörhead & Earl Sweatshirt
As for what exactly is ailing Earl Sweatshirt, we don’t have a whole lot of information. A press rep for the rapper, who is a member of the hip hop collective Odd Future said, “Due to illness, Earl Sweatshirt has been forced to cancel all foreseeable tour dates until he is healthy.”
Mr. Sweatshirt tweeted June 21, “I didnt plan on getting sick im sorry for any shows i miss due to this shit.”
A few days later he took to using all caps for emphasis.
“IM STILL SICK AND THIS SUCKS ASS THAT I CANT MAKE IT TO THESE JULY SHOWS I AM REALLY F***ING SORRY TO EVERYONE WHO WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO IT,” he tweeted June 25.
The rapper was supposed to play Glastonbury Festival in Pilton, England, July 30. Additional festival appearances included sets at Belgium’s Rock Werchter, Switzerland’s Openair Frauenfeld and Scotland’s T In The Park. Plus, he had a July 24 show to do with Mac Miller in Cleveland.
Motörhead’s canceled appearances include a June 22 set at See-Rock Festival in Graz Austria, and June 25 gig in Milan, Italy. And now the band can’t make Friday’s show.
The English heavy metal band didn’t initially give fans a reason for canceling the first two dates. On its website Motörhead said the shows weren’t happening and “the band regret it very much but will make it up to all the fans as soon as possible.”
A rough translation of the statement from Barley Arts Promotion, the promoter for the Milan gig (via Rolling Stone), said Motörhead canceled the show because of “the health problems of Lemmy, caused by a strong hematoma, which makes it impossible at present to go on stage.”
Now, Full Force Festival reports Motörhead won’t be able to make its June 28 set in Roitzschjora, Germany.
A translation provided on the festival’s Facebook page says, “Lemmy is located in medical care and on the mend, but his current health currently does not allow an appearance. He regrets the cancellation very, but at the same time promised 2014 to repeat the performance. We thank you for your understanding and wish you all the best as well as fast and complete recovery Lemmy.”
Motörhead hasn’t addressed the June 28 appearance on its website. But it did post the following statement June 27: “We are happy to announce that despite rumors to the contrary, Lemmy is alive, breathing, talking … drinking, eating, reading and will be back to playing shows shortly. As reported, he did undergo a Motor-pit-stop for some medical maintenance this past spring, and the timing of his recent illness was unfortunate in that it came so soon after that. Lemmy & Co believe in the ‘keep calm and carry on’ way of thinking. Fans can anticipate more Motörhead live action this summer, as well as the most exciting Motörhead in years, Aftershock, this Fall.”
Motörhead’s next scheduled appearance is July 4 at the Metaltown Festival in Goteborg, Sweden.
