Odds & Ends: Sharon Jones, Bloc Party, Rolling Stones, Sasquatch!

As promised, the Dap-Kings’ soulful, sequined leader is keeping fans updated on her progress since revealing she was diagnosed with a stage-one tumor on her bile duct.  

“Today is the day of my procedure,” Sharon Jones tweeted June 11. “Thank you friends, fans and family, I’m nervous, but I feel strong because of your love and support.”

She added later that day, “Out of surgery, and I am feeling better than I ever expected. The nurses at the hospital are taking care of me and I am feeling so grateful.”   

On June 12 Jones wrote, “Tubes in my throat, tubes in my nose, tubes in my stomach, tubes in my—I’m all tubed up!”

Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings announced last week that because of the frontwoman’s health issues, the band was being forced to postpone its 2013 tour plans as well as the Aug. 6 release of its new album, Give The People What They Want.

According to a statement, Jones’ surgery is expected to “lead to a full recovery.”

Sasquatch! Music Festival is following the lead of Coachella and Austin City Limits and expanding to two weekends.

But instead of taking place over two consecutive weekends, the fest named after Bigfoot will he held in 2014 during its traditional Memorial Day weekend May 23-25, in addition to the Fourth of July weekend July 4-6.

Plus, each weekend at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Wash., will feature “totally separate lineups.” The 2014 acts have not yet been revealed. The 2013 roster included Mumford & Sons, The Postal Service, Sigur Rós, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Vampire Weekend and The xx.

Blaming the ups and downs in the relationships between his bandmates, Bloc Party guitarist Russell Lissack says the group will take a indefinite hiatus after it wraps its summer commitments.

Bloc Party’s last break from extended touring took place from 2009 to 2012.

“Definitely after we finish the festivals in the summer we’ll be taking some time off. At least six months, maybe a year maybe two years, it’s hard to say,” Lissack told the National Post.

The guitarist noted that after his wife accompanied the band on the road for two days she told him, “Your life, I can’t handle it. It’s such a roller coaster of extreme highs and extreme lows.”

Lissack added, “That’s quite representative of all the relationships in the band. Maybe we’ll play an amazing show and we’ll be on a real high and then the next day some minor thing will happen and everyone hates each other.”

The Rolling Stones might sound a little bit country June 18 when Brad Paisley takes the stage with the band for its first of two nights at the Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center.

As for tonight’s show at Boston’s TD Garden, the Stones haven’t announced if anyone special will be joining the group. Fans still have time to vote for which song they’d like to hear June 14. You can choose between “Memory Motel,” “Street Fighting Man,” “Let It Bleed,” “Just My Imagination” and “Waiting For A Friend.”

The Stones’ most recent guest was Gary Clark Jr., who appeared in Boston June 12.
