Metallica Releases 3-D Concert Film Trailer
In other words, this isn’t your typical concert film. In addition to footage from the band’s 2012 Vancouver shows, “Metallica Through The Never” features a narrative about a crew member played by actor Dane DeHaan who “is sent out on a mission during Metallica’s roaring live set in front of a sold-out arena.” During the mission, the crew member’s life is “turned completely upside down.” As you can see in the trailer below, the crew member encounters a major car crash, rioters and what looks to be a horseman of the Apocalypse.
“Metallica Through The Never” was directed by Nimród Antal, whose filmography includes “Kontroll,” “Vacancy,” “Armored” and “Predators.”
Concert footage in the film was filmed in August at Vancouver’s Roger Arena. The band added a third night at the venue and invited fans to attend the show for only $5. Metallica explained there would be lots of breaks in the set so that cameras and lights could be repositioned during filming.
The film is the first movie to debut exclusively at IMAX theatres, according to the Associated Press. You can catch “Metallica Through The Never” on every single screen in every single IMAX theatre in North America beginning Sept. 27. After a one-week engagement at IMAX, the film hits additional theaters in 3D on Oct. 4.
“IMAX! It doesn’t get bigger or cooler than that!” said Lars Ulrich. “For four guys in a rock band of average height, to get a chance to unleash their 3D film on IMAX screens the size of buildings across the country is a mind-blowing thought. ‘Hey look, Mom, I’m 50 feet tall (finally!)’ There is no better way to experience film and when you throw in the spectacle of music and sound this should amount to an unprecedented, unique and truly next level experience.”
