SMG Scores Puerto Rico Deal

SMG Latin America has inked a new management agreement in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where the company will take over operations for the under-construction Bahia Urbana when it opens next year.

The new development will feature a 4,000-capacity amphitheater, water park, urban market, restaurants, hotels and residential areas on the site of a former port and industrial area of the city that borders San Juan Bay.

“This project is the transformation of fully damaged and abandoned industrial areas into new, clean spaces designed to create a unique experience; the perfect mix of beach, city and future,” SMG Latin America VP Jochi Dávila said.

Linnette Isona will take the reins as GM of the government owned-development, which is slated to host some 200 events annually, many of which will be free.

This isn’t SMG’s first foray into the region. The company already operates the city’s Coliseo de Puerto Rico and Convention Center.
