Livestrong Park No More
A naming-rights agreement between Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong Foundation and Major League Soccer’s Sporting Kansas City – which included the team’s Livestrong Sporting Park – is officially toast.
The deal was considered to be an unusual one for the world of naming rights when it was inked about two years ago. Instead of courting top-dollar deals with corporations, the team promised to direct millions from the stadium’s ticket, concession and souvenir sales to the nonprofit, which supports people affected by cancer.
Livestrong has complained that Sporting KC has failed to live up to its obligations, while the team says it paid the $250,000 it was contractually obligated to that point, ESPN reported.
The announcement comes as Armstrong was to publicly confess to using performance-enhancing drugs during his record-breaking cycling career.
The stadium will go by Sporting Park for now.
