Former The Who Manager Dies

Chris Stamp, a former co-manager of The Who and founder of the Track Records label, died at home Nov. 24.

Stamp, who started out as a filmmaker, and partner Kit Lambert met The Who in London’s East End in 1963 while making a documentary on the British rock scene. Within a year they’d become the act’s managers.

In 1967, Stamp and Lambert launched Track Records with the release of the Jimi Hendrix Experience’s “Purple Haze” single and the album Are You Experienced?

Stamp drifted away from the music business after entering rehab in 1987, and later became a therapist in psychodrama and addiction counseling.

He died of cancer in New York City, according to Variety, survived by his wife and two daughters. He was 70.
