Changes: Curtis Salgado, Passion Pit

Salgado is set to undergo a partial lobectomy July 18. According to a post on the artist’s official website, the surgical procedure will remove a portion of the artist’s left lung where a metastasized mass was found. Doctors believe the mass is similar to a growth removed from his lung in 2008.

The plan calls for Salgado to remain in the hospital for four to six days followed by a recovery time that could last up to four weeks. Because of this, the blues singer / harmonica player has had to cancel several shows.

Salgado will play his Portland, Ore., gig scheduled for the Portland Classical Chinese Garden on July 17, the eve of the surgery. Shows scheduled from July 18 through Aug. 17 are canceled as is Aug. 23 in Syracuse at the Dinosaur Bar-B-Q. August shows scheduled for Aug. 18, 19 & 22 in Lebanon, Ore., Carlton, Ore., and Buffalo, N.Y., respectively, are still on the books.

There’s not a lot of information coming out of the Passion Pit camp regarding the band canceling six shows beginning with tonight’s gig in Nashville. A posting on the band’s website

by frontman Michael Angelakos says he’s taking a break to so he can focus on improving his “mental health.”

For now, I’d like to thank all of our fans for their understanding. I hope to see all of you very soon in a much different light.”

Canceled are shows in Nashville (July 16), Knoxville, Tenn. (July 17), Charlotte, N.C (July 19), Dover, Del. (July 20), Norfolk Va. (also July 20) and New York City (July 23).

Passion Pit’s next scheduled performance is a Lollapalooza aftershow at Chicago’s House Of Blues Aug. 2 followed by a gig at the festival itself Aug. 3.
